Eastern North Carolina-style vinegar sauce. Thin, tangy, and spicy — the original pulled pork sauce. No tomato allowed.
Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Red Pepper Flakes
- Cayenne Pepper
- Brown Sugar
- Kosher Salt
- Black Pepper
- Hot Sauce (Texas Pete or similar)
Steps
- 1Combine all ingredients in a jar or saucepan.
- 2If heating, bring to a simmer and stir until sugar dissolves.
- 3Let cool and refrigerate at least 4 hours (overnight is better).
- 4Shake well before using. Splash on pulled pork.
